Artist Statement

This project was inspired by the unyielding queer love found around Seattle and the need to document this joy at a time when positivity is desperately needed. Dakota encourages her subjects to be themselves, letting the couples do what they want while providing their own input throughout the photoshoot. This project is about them. There are also some couples that were not included in the final publication due to dangerous or otherwise unstable circumstances in their lives. Their joy and queerness is just as valid as those photographed here, and their radiance and kindness greatly helped build this project.
